Our Work Packages

Seventeen interconnected work packages bring together scientific leadership, fellow recruitment, advanced training, research implementation and community engagement to strengthen malaria genomic epidemiology capacity.

MAGNETS is organised around the fellowship lifecycle, supported by cross-cutting training, dissemination and scientific coordination. Several activities are divided into two reporting periods (RP1 and RP2), ensuring continuity from recruitment through to research outputs and fellowship completion.

Project Management and Monitoring

Coordinate project administration, monitor work package progress, maintain consortium communication and oversee reporting and compliance with the Grant Agreement.

Scientific Project Leadership

Provide scientific governance and quality assurance, coordinate consortium bodies, oversee the Data Management Plan and foster strategic partnerships.

Recruitment & onboarding

From fair selection to a shared foundation for learning.

WP4Months 1–12

Fellows Recruitment and Selection

Design and implement a transparent, inclusive, merit-based process to recruit 10 Master's fellows, with attention to gender balance and English–Portuguese linguistic equity.

Develop the competency framework, modular curriculum, mentorship resources and training platform, and prepare fellows through orientation activities.

Launch the project website, develop the dissemination, exploitation and communication plan, and create an outreach toolkit for consortium-wide community engagement.

Project-level Dissemination, Exploitation and Communication

Coordinate international scientific presentations, consolidate outreach activities, prepare a project-wide open-access manuscript and organise the final dissemination event.

Fellowships implementation

Academic training, mentoring and research across four host institutions.

Eight work packages support fellows across two reporting periods. RP1 focuses on fellowship agreements, onboarding, coursework, foundational training and initial research. RP2 focuses on advanced research, scientific outputs, outreach and completion.
