How MAGNETS is managed

The consortium operates through complementary governance bodies, with defined responsibilities for strategic oversight, scientific quality, administrative coordination and work package implementation.

General Assembly

Decision-making body
  • One representative from each beneficiary.
  • Makes strategic decisions and oversees the project.
  • Meets at least every six months.

Scientific Project Leader

FM / CISM · Scientific governance
  • Chairs the General Assembly.
  • Oversees scientific implementation and coordinates scientific leadership across work packages.
  • Reviews deliverables before submission.

Coordinator

EDCTP Association · Administrative & financial coordination
  • Acts as the interface with the Granting Authority.
  • Submits reports and deliverables and manages payments.
  • Monitors project implementation.

Work Package Leaders Group

Coordinator and all WP leaders
  • Meets every three months to monitor implementation.
  • Reviews internal progress reports.
  • Supports periodic reporting.

All beneficiaries implementing project activities

Partner teams carry out the activities assigned to their work packages and contribute to the delivery of MAGNETS objectives.

Each partner contributes distinct expertise to scientific direction, project coordination, recruitment, training, fellowship implementation and technical support.

Scientific Leadership

FM / CISM
  • Provide overall scientific leadership and strategic direction.
  • Ensure scientific quality and integration across the consortium.
  • Lead the fellowship programme and dissemination activities.

Project Coordination

EDCTP Association
  • Coordinate project implementation and interface with the Granting Authority.
  • Oversee financial management and reporting.
  • Monitor project progress and compliance.

Recruitment & Capacity Building

IDRC · Recruitment lead
  • Coordinate fellowship recruitment.
  • Ensure a transparent and competitive selection procedure.
ISGlobal · Training lead
  • Design and deliver the core training programme.
  • Coordinate onboarding and transversal capacity-building activities.

Fellowship Implementation

Host institutions · FM/CISM, WHC, IDRC & AHRI
  • Host Master’s fellows.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship.
  • Deliver institution-based research training.
  • Monitor fellows’ academic progress.

Scientific Support

ISGlobal & UCSF
  • Provide scientific and technical expertise.
  • Support mentoring and advanced training.
  • Strengthen international collaboration.
  • Contribute to scientific excellence and innovation.

Responsibilities of all consortium members

Every consortium member shares responsibility for timely implementation, transparent reporting, collaborative governance and the responsible dissemination of project results.

Project Implementation

  • Implement assigned tasks in accordance with Annex 1 (DoA).
  • Meet milestones and deliverables on time.
  • Notify delays or implementation risks promptly.
  • Ensure quality and scientific integrity.

Reporting

  • Provide internal progress reports when requested.
  • Contribute to periodic reporting.
  • Ensure information is accurate, complete and submitted on time.

Collaboration & Governance

  • Participate in consortium meetings and activities.
  • Support WP leaders in coordination and decision-making.
  • Share knowledge and expertise across partners.
  • Promote cooperation, trust and transparency.

Compliance

  • Respect confidentiality obligations.
  • Follow publication and dissemination procedures (Section 8).
  • Respect access rights and intellectual property rules (Section 9).
  • Comply with applicable laws, including data protection.

Risk Management

  • Identify potential risks and issues affecting the project.
  • Inform the relevant WP leader and/or coordinator promptly.
  • Contribute to mitigation and corrective actions.

Dissemination & Exploitation

  • Support dissemination of results and project visibility.
  • Contribute to exploitation activities and impact creation.
  • Acknowledge Horizon Europe, Global Health EDCTP3 and MAGNETS in communications.
